Tips and Tricks for Starting Your Own Patio Produce Patch

Speaking of planting seeds, spring is the perfect time to do that not only figuratively but literally in your very own garden, too! Not everyone has the space or sunshine to grow a full garden, complete with rows of tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, and cucumbers. But everyone has the space and time to grow something, so we are going to give some initial pointers for how to start a container garden, which can be done on a balcony or even a front stoop, with very little space required. I Want to Try These Cookies, but I have Allergies… Now What?

If you have dietary restrictions or allergies of any kind, flipping through a cookbook can be a frustrating pastime as you drool over the glossy photos of food you can’t eat. The good news is, it can be easier than it looks to make some quick ingredient swaps so you can enjoy new and exciting food options!

Eggs

One of the easiest things to substitute is eggs, with several options. Generally speaking, if a baking recipe calls for 2 or fewer eggs, you can use a substitute with similar results. Combine 1 tablespoon of flax or chia seeds with 3 tablespoons of water and allow it to sit for 5–10 minutes. Miraculously, the seedy goodness will form a gel that you can use just like an egg for your baking enjoyment! [Read More…]

Stretch the Possibilities in 2018

January 8, 2018

Embracing change can be difficult. We are, after all, creatures of habit. Change requires patience, determination, and flexibility, both figuratively and, in some cases, literally! Why is flexibility so important? Well, for starters, the more flexible you are, the less likely you are to get injured, which is really enough of a reason in and of itself.  [Read More…]

Let the Light Shine

Let the Light Shine

December 28, 2017

It’s no coincidence that the season following daylight savings time is filled with celebrations of light. No matter your culture or belief system, this time of the year is filled with candles, stars, glittery decorations, and sparkly snowflakes to help us illuminate the darkness. With these celebrations come more time with family and often the images and pressure of the “perfect” joy-filled moments. For many people, holiday music blaring from the speakers in stores and a line snaking through the mall waiting for Santa fills them with magic and wonder and much joy, but for others, not even the most tantalizing smell of warm apple cider can spark a smile. Five Tips for Healthy Stress Relief

December 5, 2017

Despite the chilly temperatures and increase in dark skies, the December holiday season is one of my favorite times of the year. I love the smells and the music and the decorations. I love time with my family and sending cards and taking part in the traditions that have been ingrained in me throughout my life. I love the excitement and wonder of it all!

All sounds pretty magical, doesn’t it? And it is, but that’s not the whole story. [Read More…]

Gluten, Grain, Dairy, Soy-Free and Vegan

Seeds need energy in order to grow, and cultivating your own healthy habits can take a lot of energy too! Energy bars and energy balls are everywhere we look these days. They are super easy to whip up yourself, but many people are intimidated by the thought. More…

Gluten-free, Vegan, Soy-Free, Nut-Free Option

My youngest nephew has a laundry list of food allergies, due to a diagnosis of FPIES (Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome) which is a unique type of food allergy that affects the gastrointestinal tract. His list of “safe foods” changes on a regular basis, and to say it’s limited is an understatement. When my sister-in-law mentioned that she would be sticking a candle in an apple slice for his first birthday, I knew just what my next recipe creation would be. Everyone deserves a cupcake on a birthday! Inspired by an oatmeal cookie and an apple spice cake, this cupcake is sure to delight taste buds, both young and old. More…

I’d say Lydia Buschenfeldt has changed my life, but that wouldn’t be exactly true. What she does is even more powerful. Anyone can tell someone else what changes they ‘need’ to make to live a healthier life. It takes someone special to enable and empower you to change your own life. Lydia is that someone special. During every session, at every twist and turn and bump in the road, Lydia meets me where I am with an incredible amount of knowledge and patience, and helps me identify one or two steps forward to accomplish the goals I have for myself. She knows that each journey is different, and customizes our sessions so our discussions are tailored toward what I need in that moment to help me build the health, future and happiness that I deserve.
