I’d say Lydia Buschenfeldt has changed my life, but that wouldn’t be exactly true. What she does is even more powerful. Anyone can tell someone else what changes they ‘need’ to make to live a healthier life. It takes someone special to enable and empower you to change your own life. Lydia is that someone special. During every session, at every twist and turn and bump in the road, Lydia meets me where I am with an incredible amount of knowledge and patience, and helps me identify one or two steps forward to accomplish the goals I have for myself. She knows that each journey is different, and customizes our sessions so our discussions are tailored toward what I need in that moment to help me build the health, future and happiness that I deserve.
I began working with Lydia when I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease last summer and was underdoing several major lifestyle changes at the same time. Lydia was extremely knowledgeable about nutrition and wellness in general, and specifically with digestive conditions like mine. She helped me address diet and stress challenges from multiple angles — providing me with recipes, shopping strategies, stress-reduction practices, and general wellness/happiness coaching. Lydia was flexible with my busy work schedule and supportive between sessions which made it easy for me to work with her. I’m extremely pleased with the changes that she has helped me implement and my overall health has improved dramatically this year.
Hatch Health and Happiness saved my mornings!!! I was a new CrossFit athlete and starving in the mornings and not eating enough protein. Lydia not only figured out what was wrong, but gave me ideas, methods, and recipes to make my morning meal a success. And it has been a smashing success! I can make it to lunch without snacking. I’m more awake and efficient. And I love the food I am eating–it is delicious and nutritious! These changes came within the first couple weeks of the program and were the most dramatic changes, but the whole program was a great way to solidify my other goals and the great other methods Lydia gave me to accomplish those goals. Lydia has a way of listening to my rambling and extracting exactly what I want to get out of a session. And then she perfectly answered my questions and gave me solutions. My life is forever changed for the better from my Hatch Health and Happiness program. I would highly recommend the program to anyone–it’s solutions for healthy living for all!
I worked with Lydia over the course of a 6 month period during which she served as my health coach to help me regain control over my eating habits (to make them healthier), to improve my exercise habits, and to decrease the stress in my life related to my career. After suffering the devastation of several early miscarriages, due to suspected PCOS, and overwhelmed with the amount of information out there about how to alter one’s lifestyle to reverse or significantly change the effects of PCOS on one’s body, I knew I needed help getting myself on the right track, and I found my answer in Lydia.
Since I live several hours away from Lydia, our time together consisted of bi-weekly one-hour phone meetings, and unlimited email contact during which she helped to gently but firmly guide me towards healthier eating habits, work habits, and an exercise schedule that is manageable and effective. I looked forward to my meetings with Lydia, and felt (and still feel!) that she genuinely cares for me and the progress I made toward my well-being. Instead of making me feel inadequate when I fell short of my expectations for myself, Lydia helped me to see what accomplishments I had still made, and worked with me to find solutions that would promote health and happiness without compromising the changes occurring in my life that were affecting my program and resulting in unexpected changes on my path to change. Lydia provided me with a wealth of information on as to why the nutritional and exercise changes I was making would make a positive impact on my health in even more ways than I was considering–and I have a resource to go back to and refer to and keep me motivated. I am impressed that, even though our time together has come to an end, Lydia has kept in touch and continues to touch base with me to see how I am doing. And, while the program was going on, she was my cheerleader–sending me cards, sending me unexpected praise in emails, and also praising me in our phone calls…always using praise with purpose–not just cheering for me hollowly but with meaning by letting me know why she was cheering for me and reinforcing what I was doing correctly to keep steering me on the right direction in a positive way.
As I progress through the healthy, happy pregnancy that I wholeheartedly believe is the result of the changes Lydia helped me to make in my life, I still hear myself thinking “Lydia would be proud to know I took tonight off just to rest and re-group for me” or “I had greens 3 times today in 3 different ways–Lydia would be thrilled”. Lydia’s support has had a hugely positive impact on my path towards health and happiness, and with her help I have made not temporary changes but permanent, positive lifestyle changes.
I only wish I could have had more time with Lydia, and look forward to working with her again in the future!
